Engineering jobs can be quite appealing for students, since they promise very interesting work, on complex problems that involve highly technical solutions, and they typically pay well.

You must also handle stress well, because once you’re into that position, you’re one of very few people able to deal with these large projects, and as such deadlines tend to be short, and you need to be able to get the job done in a very small window of time. Long hours are not uncommon, and so is overtime.

Fortunately, the salary and benefits make up for this. Even a starting systems engineer could make around $70,000, and once experienced, that can go up to $120,000 or more. You can also get bonus payments if you finish the work on time, since you’re directly responsible for that.

Even though it’s a demanding, stressful job, systems engineer salary is worth the education required to get into that field. You also get to see things most people never do, and learn about new technology before others.
